Abstract:

HighWire Press is developing a Drupal front-end for HighWire hosted journal sites. Using Drupal as a front-end for the HighWire system, we can both provide a web framework for publishers to manage their web site and still continue to get the primary scholarly content from the HighWire back-end Atom store. This project has presented some challenges since Drupal is being used as a front-end and not the primary content repository.

Agenda

This presentation will cover HighWire's early work to make Drupal act as a front-end for the existing HighWire system. There have been a number of challenges, in terms of accessing external content (with HTML markup) and interfacing with our existing access control and reporting services.

Goals

This talk covers HighWire's exploration of Drupal as a front-end to the HighWire systems. The goal has been to be able to leverage HighWire's existing web service interfaces to support Drupal as a front-end. Although this system is not yet available for production, the hope is that it will allow technically savvy publishers to mix and match HighWire and non-HighWire functionality on the web site and will provide a flexible web framework with content management capabilities for auxiliary content.
