Drupal for Conferences - A Stairway to Heaven or the Highway to Hell
This would be more in the "unconference" style of a session on Best Practices or Suggestions for using Drupal for conferences.
This would be more in the "unconference" style of a session. I will be leading/moderating the session, but I would rely on the wisdom of the group to push the session forward. I would really like to see if someone who was responsible for the the Design4Drupal camp website/management could maybe co-lead with me. I would like to try to mine the group for suggestions and best practices, looking at what I know as the backend needs and requirements for conferences in general, and what the group might know as solutions (modules/theme elements) to address the requirements. Utlimately this session would be able to answer whether the final experience with Drupal at the helm of a Conference website is a heavenly experience, or direct from Dante.
Debrief of Session:
This session ended up short on attendees and evolved into a QA session with the two attendees to find out what they were looking for. One attendee was looking for much the same information that I was and had similar experiences with the website/backend that had pushed me towards Drupal in the first place.
The other user was someone who had used Drupal before in a general capacity, but her job as an event manager was the reason that she attended the session. Her focus was the actual use of Drupal and a website not to facilitate the sign-up, abstract, and registration process, but the actual day of the event site management process. I had completely missed this angle in my planning for the presentation and will try to ferret out some suggestions for this perspective as well.
It was initially hoped that some Drupal Users with experience with conference sites might attend to help with the session, but since that never materialized, I will post more information as it becomes available to to me. There were a couple of suggestions that I will follow up on and post results here as they test out.
